High speed train station West Styria

West Styria Station is the largest newly built station on the Koralmbahn high-speed railway line and serves various functions. It acts as a hub for different mobility providers, representing a flagship of railway infrastructure, while also serving as a local center and driving force for regional development. The central feature is a hall with an arched roof, which also covers the drop-off area for buses and taxis. Inside the hall are spaces for retail and service businesses. A central stair tower leads to a pedestrian bridge that crosses the tracks and connects to the platforms. Key design principles include short, clear connections between park-and-ride areas, bus stops, and platforms to ensure a seamless travel experience. The transparent layout supports easy orientation and social safety. All structures, information systems, and communication facilities follow the “Design for All” approach, making them accessible to all users. Examples include tactile guidance systems, high-contrast visuals, barrier-free paths, and multi-sensory elements. Heating is sustainably powered by heat pumps using warm mountain water from the railway tunnel.
