Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab

Killa Design

Client: Jumeirah Group

Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab marks a new chapter for Jumeirah, redefining luxury and innovation in hospitality. Designed by Shaun Killa, this architectural masterpiece is inspired by the elegance of superyachts, seamlessly blending with Dubai’s coastline. Situated between the iconic Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel, the resort offers unparalleled oceanfront experiences, exquisite dining, and world-class wellness facilities.

Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is designed as a seamless extension of Dubai’s maritime legacy. Inspired by the sleek contours of luxury superyachts, the resort’s fluid architecture creates an illusion of movement, setting a new standard for design in the region. The striking steel arch at the entrance frames the Burj Al Arab, providing guests with an iconic arrival experience. The inspiration behind Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab was to capture the essence of movement and fluidity, an architectural expression of a yacht cutting through the waves. This vision was achieved by incorporating smooth, curving forms that create the illusion of motion, even in a static structure. Advances in technology enabled the design team to push the boundaries of traditional architecture, utilising robotics and automated CNC fabrication to craft seamless, double-curved lines that were once impossible to achieve. Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab was envisioned as a complement to its neighbouring landmarks while establishing its own distinct identity. Rather than competing with Burj Al Arab’s iconic form, the resort serves as a sophisticated counterpart that enhances the architectural rhythm of the coastline. A carefully curated design story unfolds across the beachfront, beginning at Madinat Jumeirah with its traditional Arabian influence, transitioning through the contemporary forms of Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Burj Al Arab, and culminating in the futuristic vision of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. Preserving the public’s view of Burj Al Arab was a critical aspect of the design. Instead of merging the hotel and residences into a single structure, the decision was made to keep them separate, maintaining sightlines from the open beach and ensuring that Dubai’s skyline remains visually harmonious. A precise analysis of angles and GPS positioning allowed for a layout that enhances the guest experience while respecting the greater urban landscape. Dubai’s ambition and innovation are reflected in every element of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. Designed for a global audience of jetsetters, entrepreneurs, and luxury travellers, the resort offers an exclusive retreat that merges hospitality with visionary architecture. From lush landscaping to diverse dining, every detail celebrates Dubai’s multicultural vibrancy. By redefining ultra-luxury, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab reinforces the city’s reputation as a leader in design and hospitality. Sustainability is integral to the resort’s design. One impactful strategy was the creation of continuous balconies that self-shade the glass façade, reducing solar gain and cooling demand by up to 40%. Additional measures include greywater recycling for irrigation, green roofs to reduce the heat island effect, energy-efficient systems, and eliminating single-use plastics—aligning with Jumeirah’s broader environmental commitments. These initiatives ensure the resort delivers on luxury while prioritising responsibility, setting a precedent for sustainable hospitality.
