Song Zhaoqing, founder and chief architect of Lacime Architects, adheres to architectural design philosophy of "simplify complicated materials, back to the origin". In urban renewal of Shanghai, as he has been exploring ways to preserve historic houses of Shikumen complex and breathe new life into them, he is hailed as "Chinese avant-garde architect in urban renewal". Song Zhaoqing creatively combines Chinese and Western architectural traditions and uses Chinese traditional elements in a modern manner. When he was a lead architect of Nikken Sekkei, Song Zhaoqing worked with world-renowned architect Benjamin Wood to complete Shanghai XINTIANDI, which has changed local culture and lifestyle and set a good example for urban renewal project. Invited by Asia's leading design magazine Perspective, Song Zhaoqing joined in 2019 A&D Trophy Awards judging panel.In 2020, with the recommendation of German Design Council, Song Zhaoqing became a jury of ICONIC Awards·Innovative Architecture.
