Green at heart
Today, 54% of the global population lives in urban areas. By 2050 this number is expected to reach 85% in the developed world (United Nations: World Urbanization Prospects).
As our planet undergoes the largest wave of urban growth in history, we urgently need solutions to help nature flourish in the city and restore our connection with it.
Utrecht is one of the oldest cities and the fourth largest city in the Netherlands in terms of population. Centrally located on a junction of roads, railways and waterways, Utrecht is a leading trade fair and conference city and the fastest growing economic center in the Netherlands.
Greenest towers of the Netherlands
On the doorstep of Utrecht Central Station will rise in 2022 the two greenest towers of the Netherlands: Wonderwoods - showing that nature and stones go together perfectly. Wonderwoods brings the forest back to the city.
2 Towers. 1 Mindset.
Both towers - individually distinct but like-minded - seek to find a new balance between nature and the city.
Tower I is the creation of Stefano Boeri Architetti (Milan), renowned worldwide for its innovative Vertical Forest. Nature is surrounding the architecture.
In symphonic juxtaposition, Tower II, the vision of Dutch architect Roberto Meyer of MVSA Architects (Amsterdam), is 'extravert': nature indoors reaches out to nature outdoors.
