The Oaks is created on a vision for a modern community in the countryside where life revolves around healthy, active, outdoor living. JTP’s Pattern Book, created in 2014, documents the DNA of Czech villages serving to inform the design of the masterplan, landscape, and individual buildings. Successful entries of the invited design competition create a joyful and authentic composition, reflecting the brief for a contemporary interpretation of traditional Czech homes.
Phase 1, which is on site, features the village square and two apartment blocks by JTP and Chapman Taylor, and three houses by McGarry Moon. JTP’s apartments are set around four courtyards and bring in the surrounding countryside through framed views to create homes with a strong connection to the nature beyond. Chapman Taylor’s buildings frame the village square accommodating local amenities including a store, bakery, and bistro, whilst offering stunning views across the landscape.
Designed around private courtyards, the cluster formation of McGarry Moon’s dwellings embodies an ambition to assimilate with its surroundings whilst re-evaluating the vernacular. The use of natural materials has been at the heart of the project’s design ethos, demonstrating the value of collaboration and collective innovation to produce a unique place that respects its physical and cultural context. The forthcoming phases will introduce a country club, golf course, school, tennis academy and a village green to act as the heart of the neighbourhood. This communal design focuses on ‘quality of life’ to promote a healthy and active environment for people to call home.
