The WAN Small Spaces Award is a specialist category celebrating permanent small scale architecture.

With diminishing land availability, decreasing budgets and real estate at a premium, it falls upon architects and engineers to create ever more imaginative solutions to small-scale structures.

We will be looking at a variety of different building uses for this award, to name a few:

  • Pavilions
  • Public Convenience
  • Tree Houses
  • Cycle Sheds
  • Dwellings/Pods
  • Bus/Tram Shelter
  • Huts
  • Garden Rooms/Cabins
  • Emergency Relief

A panel of world-class experts will be assessing the entries, each chosen for their unique insights, unparalleled experience and unwavering commitment to finding innovative ways of rethinking space. All award entries will have their work seen across the world by the industry’s key players, which will boost your reputation within the architectural community and enhance your business performance.

Judging Criteria

The judges will use their experience in the sector to assess your project on a number of factors to get to the short list including; Originality, Innovation, Form, Function, Sustainability and Context.

The shortlisted projects will then be tested to see whether your design has:

  • Addressed any key challenges within the client brief
  • Pushed the accepted boundaries for this building type

Presentation is also of great importance, and judges will be looking for your ability to communicate the 'story' of your building, from the initial concept through to its completion.

The competition is open to all projects built during the last three full calendar years, on or after 01 January 2015.
