BEST USE OF IMMERSIVE TECH

The WAN Best use of Immersive Technology award is an exciting new addition to our stable of architecture categories. Providing an international platform for practices pushing the technology boundaries to enhance the communication of projects and project concepts to stakeholders.

The award will encompass the entire spectrum of immersive technologies including; VR/AR/MR

This award will celebrate practices staking a claim in the use of these innovativative visual technologies on real life projects and project proposals. We are actively seeking the best examples of the practical use of Immersive Technology in both large and small projects across the globe. 

Judging the entries will be a panel of industry experts tasked to identify the outstanding examples of this new technology.

The endorsement of the panel will lead to global recognition of your work, marking your practice as a leader in new technology.

Entry Requirements

Please note, this category has specific entry requirements. 
Supportive Text: 
  • In 600 words or less, please include an overview and description of how this technology assisted your project and the medium and platform used, VR/AR/MR etc. 
 Submission: 
  • As part of your submission, you are required to submit six images to represent your entry. Please ensure the images are high res and a minimum of 300dpi. 
  • This information will be used to select a shortlist of 25 and the successful firms will be contacted and invited to submit a demo for the judges at a later date. Full details will be supplied at that stage.

Judging Criteria

To shortlist the judges will use their experience in the immersive, design and architectural sectors to assess your submission on a number of factors including:

  • The use of textures, shading, lighting, scale and models to create the virtual environment
  • The sense of presence within the virtual space
  • How the users attention was focused to convey the project or design narrative
  • The “true to life” feel of the virtual environment
  • Use of innovative elements - audio, text, animation, 360 film etc
  • Actual relevance to the project or project proposal

The shortlisted projects will then be tested to see whether the use of immersive technology has:

  • Overcome stakeholder barriers that traditional visualisation techniques would have lost
  • Identified areas in which a project/aspect of a project could be enhanced
  • That the use of immersive technology was a significant factor in the realisation of the project. 

Eligibility

There are no time restrictions in this category which covers all immersive technologies in the built environment.

Enter Fees

  • £375 (Early bird - valid before 30 March) 
  • £425 (Standard - valid between 30 March - 12 June) 
Entries received after 12 June are subject to a late fee of £50
