This award recognises the importance of the affordable housing sector and showcases the innovation being applied to social and affordable housing projects, the brand new WAN Affordable Housing category highlights the importance of good architecture and design.  

We are looking for the best examples of recent multi-occupancy residential builds, from apartment blocks to University campuses,  submissions can be of any size, scale and proportion.

Judging the entries will be a panel of industry leaders, who’ll be singling out the designs that rethink the way in which we provide affordable and social housing for our cities. Their endorsement will lead to global recognition of your work as a leader in this field.

Judging Criteria

The judges will use their experience in the sector to assess your project on a number of factors to get to the short list including; Originality, Innovation, Form, Function, Sustainability and Context.

The shortlisted projects will then be tested to see whether your design has:

  • Addressed any key challenges within the client brief
  • Pushed the accepted boundaries for this building type

Presentation is also of great importance, and judges will be looking for your ability to communicate the 'story' of your building, from the initial concept through to its completion.


The competition is open to all projects built during the last three full calendar years, on or after 01 January 2015.

Entry Fees

  • £375 (Early bird - valid before 30 March)
  • £425 (Standard - valid between 30 March - 12 June)
Entries received after 12 June are subject to a late fee of £50
