The WAN Adaptive Reuse Award is a major international competition. The award celebrates and promotes the best in international Adaptive Reuse, attracting entries from all over the world, providing a global platform to showcase your designs.

In the pursuit of sustainable development and preserving the past for the next generation, many buildings are being renovated or redeveloped – a move that significantly reduces both waste and energy, and scales down the consumption of materials.

We are looking for renovated, restored, redeveloped and recycled buildings completed during the last three full calendar years.

Our panel of expert judges will be looking for projects that deliver the most striking transformative effects, while remaining sympathetic to the building’s original character. Recognition from our panel will significantly expand your practice’s global profile, which means you can reach new markets and new clients.

Judging Criteria

The judges will use their experience in the sector to assess your project on a number of factors to get to the short list including; Originality, Innovation, Form, Function, Sustainability and Context.

The shortlisted projects will then be tested to see whether your design has:

  • Addressed any key challenges within the client brief
  • Pushed the accepted boundaries for this building type

Presentation is also of great importance, and judges will be looking for your ability to communicate the 'story' of your building, from the initial concept through to its completion.

The competition is open to all projects built during the last three full calendar years, on or after 01 January 2015.
